Exchange an Advance ticket for another Advance ticket or a flexible ticket (subject to availability).
Change the outbound journey or inbound journey or both journeys.
Select an earlier or later date than the original booking.
NOTE You can only exchange Advance tickets, they cannot be cancelled and refunded. If the ticket is not an Advance ticket, find out how to cancel the ticket instead.
You can check your ticket type at the bottom of your booking information on Click Travel.
The following rules apply to exchanging an Advance rail ticket online:
The train must not have departed already.
The operator and/or route must be the same as booked originally.
The exchange does not go ahead if the admin fees exceed the price of either the original or replacement rail ticket.
There is no limit to the number of times you can exchange the ticket. However, each time you do so:
The train operator charges you £10.00 per ticket
You pay Click Travel a cancellation fee
If the new ticket is a lower value than the original ticket, you do not get a refund for the difference in price
If the new ticket is a higher value than the original ticket, the train operator charges you for the difference in price
How to exchange your advance ticket
Click 'exchange booking'
Search for an exchange - this will take you to the search for a new advance fare
Follow through the steps as you would a normal train booking and go to the checkout
At the checkout it will advise how much is payable to complete the exchange and the amount you will be refunded for your original ticket
Once you have completed the checkout process your booking will update in the system
Do I have to send the original Advance ticket back?
If you have not yet picked up the Advance ticket from a TOD machine, the exchange should go through immediately.
If you have picked up the Advance ticket already, please return the ticket to us. Send your ticket, preferably by special delivery, to the following address:
